Nourished By Time follows up his breakout releases with The Passionate Ones, a raw, genre-spanning album out via XL Recordings. Written between Baltimore, London and New York, the record is part catharsis, part sermon—twelve tracks that grapple with love, work, disillusionment and hope against the backdrop of late-stage capitalism.
Born Marcus Brown, the Baltimore-based singer, songwriter and producer began the project as a creative escape from the crushing monotony of day jobs in 2019. Drawing on his hometown’s eclectic musical legacy—where jazz, punk, indie, hip-hop, R&B and electronics intersect—he crafts a singular sonic world shaped by deeply personal insight and sharp social commentary.
The Passionate Ones arrives after a string of critical successes. With Erotic Probiotic 2 he earned Pitchfork’s Best New Music and topped year-end lists, while Catching Chickens deepened his acclaim—CRACK Magazine placed him on its cover and named ‘Hell of a Ride’ the track of the year. Collaborations with Yaeji and Dry Cleaning, and tours with Metronomy and Toro y Moi, have cemented his place as one of the most vital new voices in experimental pop.
